Kreso Cavlovic

The facts that affix Kreso to geographic time and space also provide a key to his cultural identity and the spiritual themes that run throughout his work … From shows in the “World Biennale of Croatian arts “Horizons”… showing in Vancouver, Calgary,Toronto, Frankfurt Germany, Zagreb Croatia…to shows in Holland, Mexico, Canada, USA and Hong Kong, China …

Kreso Cavlovic as a professional artist has spawned for the last 35 years ..Cavlovic was born in Toronto of Croatian parents and was raised in Mississauga… He attended Sheridan for fine art and illustration, where he won an award for his works… Cavlovic began work as a freelance illustrator ,doing various projects for organizations such as TV Ontario, BASF and Southampton. During this period Cavlovic continued to pursue a more personal vision through his paintings, drawings and sculptures. The colours in his paintings are the colours he sees in his dreams ,visualized in the expressions around him. What they tell in words ,he saw in colour, form and images. He loves to talk about his work, but also loves and allows people freedom to react individually to discover for themselves the meaning contained therein. The influence of his work is dynamic and thematically strong ,reflecting an immersed Love of life and sheer joy of existence. Cavlovic has a wonderful use of a heightened palette enclosed with a dense line. This combination of intense colour and heavy black line make the paintings resemble Stain glass. The figures within the composition are deliberately oversized and Stocky, reminiscent of the classical figures created by Picasso. Kreso’s paintings encase hauntingly beautiful images of the girl series in rich thick colours and textures enhancing her free flowing spirit. And this latest works from the “Ocean series” is an exploration between the universe the oceans and our own spirituality How they are all truly are bound together….One’s personal interpretations play a key role in adding freedom of expression to Kreso’s symbolic paintings.Scenes

Eusebio Benjamin, the Caribbean Picasso

A barefooted little boy on a hot dusty street… He was just one of the thousands Caribbean kids polishing shoes after school to help his family make both ends meet. And like for other children what kind of future was waiting for him? He could be a peasant growing fruit and vegetables and selling them in a local market. Or he could be a fisherman spending all day long in the ocean hoping for a good catch. Or if he were lucky and smart enough, he could even reach a top of a career there working in a hotel and tourist business.
But life gave him a chance to take a different path. He was eleven years old when one day his uncle brought him to an art workshop. That event changed his life. He fell in love with art and it became his passion.
More than twenty years have passed since then. For all these years he has been happy to follow his own way and express his talent. He gets inspiration in incredible nature, his beautiful wife and two lovely daughters, travelling, local people and mysterious legends of ancient times and Taino culture. Now he is in his early thirties. He is an amazing positive man with a great sense of humor. Each of his picture is full of love, passion, sunshine and salty breeze that he generously shares with you… His name is Eusebio Benjamin. But people usually call him “Caribbean Picasso” to admire his unique talent and unordinary personality.
